Gibbs Library is pleased to announce our late winter art exhibit:

Truth, Kindness, Loss, Fairness: A show featuring 28 daily works created by artist Argy Nestor, on display January through February.

An artist’s reception will be held on Sunday, January 25th, from 2-4pm. Light refreshments will be provided.

About the Exhibit

In February of 2025, Argy joined a group of artists in a month-long, daily, creative challenge exploring new techniques and themes. Each collage reflects one of four themes—truth, kindness, loss, fairness—and includes either an inspirational phrase or a brief poem.

Several of these works were created in direct response to the growing intensity of the current political climate experienced at the national level and how Argy, as an artist and a United States citizen, coped and responded.

Some of these pieces tell stories about Argy growing up in a Greek family, and the pride her parents held as Greek-Americans; while other works showcased in this exhibit reflect Argy’s life experiences and interactions with those around her.

About the Artist: Argy Nestor has lived in Union since 1980. She taught middle school art in RSU #40 until 2006, then served at the Maine Department of Education and the Maine Arts Commission, supporting Maine’s 1,200 visual and performing arts educators. In 2019, she returned to the classroom to teach art and direct Sweetland Middle School in Hope.

During her career Argy has been honored with many awards for her commitment to education, including being named the 1995 Maine Teacher of the Year. At the heart of her work in education and in the community is collaboration. Among her proudest accomplishments is a collaborative book created with poet Jean Feldeisen that blends art and poetry.
